Veterinary technicians who are licensed in Nevada will find a variety of opportunities in private veterinary clinics, as well as in hospitals, higher education, pet food and drug companies. There are also career options in teaching, state and local governments and research facilities.

What duties does a veterinary technician perform?

Technicians are in charge of animal nursing care in a veterinary office, including, but not limited, to surgical prep and assisting, inducing and monitoring anesthesia, collecting and analyzing lab samples, client education, producing x-rays and performing dental exams.

The state of Nevada requires that all veterinary technicians be licensed. The demand for veterinary technicians in Northern Nevada is wide open due to the rapid population increase and the increasing popularity of family pets.

How long is the program?

This program can be completed in two years and requires four semesters.

Most entry-level veterinary technicians in the state of Nevada can earn between $14 to $16 per hour.

What does the program entail?

TMCC's program combines academic classes with supervised practical experience. Graduates will be eligible to take the national and state exams to become licensed as a veterinary technician.
